'Prince William rescues girl from mountain'
It was a royal rescue. And, the rescuer was none other than Prince William - the second - in-line to the British throne plucked a girl to safety from a mountain during a helicopter rescue mission. The 27-year-old Prince, undergoing his chopper training with the Royal Air Force, helped guide the helicopter in treacherous conditions so that medics could airlift Ruby Lawrence from a ledge on Mount Snowdon, British tabloid the Daily Express reported. Ruby, 21, now at home in Hereford nursing a broken leg, was quoted as saying, "It was a shock to find out he was flying the helicopter and it's a shame I didn't realise it at the time. "I just want to thank the Prince and all of the team involved in my rescue because they did a really good job. If I had been up there on my own, I would have died." Ruby is all too aware of the vital role played by servicemen like Prince William. She had been on a sponsored walk to raise 1,000 pounds in memory of her soldier boyfriend, Lance-Corporal Daniel Cooper, 21, who was killed by a roadside bomb in Afghanistan in January. Earlier this month, Prince William completed another helicopter mountain rescue mission. Sadly, the climber had suffered head injuries after falling down a mountainside and later died.
